The story of Riad goloboy

Riad Goloboy

Riad Goloboy is part of a complex of two 19th century aristocratic houses lovingly restored by art collector and interior designer Beatrice Faujas. Upon entering this charming boutique hotel in Marrakesh, you will immediately feel its special intimate atmosphere that makes you feel at home. Every detail has been chosen with passion and every room is worth a visit. Faujas’ style blends valuable antiques and original works of art with an unexpectedly eclectic contemporary touch. The entire house recalls the past times when young European aristocrats lived while discovering the beauty and artistic mysteries of Marrakesh. Wrapped in joyous hues inspired by the colourful works of artists Henri Matisse and Serge Poliakoff, Riad Goloboy is the first of its kind in Marrakesh’s labyrinthine medina. The interiors of this house of fortean pretty rooms were designed by Faujas, the creator of this boutique hotel. The walls in deep shades of anthracite highlight the bright colours of the 1950s furniture.

Eye-catching works of art, including those by Matisse and French street-artist Kouka, line the walls. And many of the riad’s original decorative elements have been lovingly blended throughout. Indeed, however beautiful the effect of Riad Goloboy as a whole, the decadence is in the details. The breathtaking Majorelle blue courtyard, the two magnificent terraces with jacuzzi overlooking the Atlas Mountains and the Mamounia Gardens, will make you feel in paradise and inspire the most beautiful pictures in this colourful Moroccan riad. Decorated in an original and lively style, it will be difficult for you to choose your room among the 14 at your disposal… And for good reason, some of the rooms here, with their bright colours, resemble sets from a particularly elegant Wes Anderson film, while others have a certain sensitivity to the 1001 nights with sumptuous Moorish details. If you want unforgettable moments during your stay and the opportunity to walk to some of the most picturesque places in Marrakesh while avoiding the hustle and bustle of the medina, then Riad Goloboy is the perfect place for your stay.

Location

Riad Goloboy is located in the heart of the medina, in the royal district of Sidi Mimoun- safe, very characteristic, quiet and lively at the same time. You will be just a few steps away from all the major sites of the medina, surrounded by the extraordinary beauty of the Koutoubia, the gardens of the Mamounia while overlooking the majestic Atlas Mountains. Distances: 500 meters from the Saadian Tombs, 500 meters from the Moulay El Yazid mosque and 600 meters from Djemaa El Fna. The airport of Marrakesh-Menara is 4 km away. Founded in 1070-1072 by the Almoravids (1056-1147), Marrakesh was an important historical centre of the Islamic world, reigning over North Africa and Andalusia. Magnificent monuments date from this period: the Koutoubia Mosque, whose incomparable 77-metre minaret, an essential monument of Muslim architecture, is one of the great landmarks of the urban landscape and the very symbol of the city, the kasbah, the ramparts, the monumental gates and the gardens. Other wonders, such as the Badiâ palace, the Ben Youssef madrasa, the Saadian tombs, the Bahia palace and the great mansions, are enclosed within the walls of the Medina. Jamaâ El Fna Square, inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, is a veritable open-air theatre that always amazes visitors. The Medina of Marrakesh has all its original components, both cultural and natural, of outstanding universal value.
